Ottawa Senators Head Coach makes wild accusation about another team and threatens retaliation
The Ottawa Senators had a 4-3 preseason victory over the Montreal Canadiens last night. After the game, head coach DJ Smith was not pleased with how the Canadiens were going after his players. Though he didn't mention any specific names, his comments appeared to be directed towards defenseman, Arber Xhekaj. The defenseman played extremely physical in last night's game and after a hit by Austin Watson in the third period of last nights game they fought. Xhekaj more they held his own in the scrap with Watson.
Smith commented that the team would be well prepared for another contest between the two clubs in New Brunswick on Saturday. Could Scott Sabourin play in Ottawa's next game? The well-known fighter could be called upon to dress and protect his fellow teammates.
We don't like that the other team is targeting our guys. We'll be ready the next game.
DJ Smith's post game comments shouldn't go unnoticed. He is genuinely concerned for the welfare of his team and doesn't want to see any of his player injured. That must be pleasing to his team. On the other hand, Arber Xhekaj is trying to make the Montreal roster and be noticed with his physical play. Xhekaj was never drafted and spent the last four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League. He is being given an opportunity and trying to seize an opportunity.
It's entertaining that the season hasn't even begun and already the Senators are not pleased with Canadiens. Can't wait for the regular season to begin between these two rivals. Of note, the NHL Department of Player Safety isn't looking into any events from last night and there were only 10 minor penalties called during the game.
