Ottawa Senators forward agrees to contract in Europe
After failing to sign an NHL contract, Ottawa Senators restricted free agent Alex Formenton has agreed to a contract with Switzerland's Ambr-Piotta Hockey Club on Wednesday.
Formenton went unsigned through the Dec. 1 deadline and is ineligible to play in the NHL this season. Formenton scored 18 goals and 32 points In 79 games last season.
Selected 47th overall by the Senators at the 2017 NHL Draft, Formenton has 23 goals and 39 points in 109 career NHL games. With things dragging on this long, it seems like a trade may be the most likely route. A second round pick seems like a reasonable ask by Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion.
