Since the beginning of the Ovechkin era, the Washington Capitals have been one of the most dominant and feared teams in the regular season. They have won the Presidents Trophy on multiple occasions and usually top their division.
This new year though has not been kind to the Capitals. Since the beginning of January 2022, the Washington Capitals have gone 9-11-2 in their last 22 games which has seen them drop to 4th in the Metro division. One thing that has always been a threat is the Capitals Powerplay which even it has dropped to 27th. This is not the Capitals team we know.
It does not help either that Ovechkin has been harassed by the media and we learned yesterday by fans as well, receiving threats, because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It looks like some of this frustration finally got to Ovechkin at the end of Monday night game.
