Earlier this week, a Twitter user shared surveillance video footage of Carson Briere, the son of Flyers GM Daniel Briere, throwing a man unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of stairs at the bar. Now, the one Ed of the wheelchair, Sydney, has spoken out on Twitter.
The act that's extremely selfish, reckless, and thoughtless, one that strikes a chord being especially reprehensible coming from a young man who has lived an extremely privileged life. Briere's school and NCAA hockey team, Mercyhurst University, issued a futile statement only offering prayers for Sydney and imposed no consequences for Briere.
After the statement from Mercyhurst University, Sydney spoke out on Twitter. She expressed gratitude for the support she received online and from the bar where the event occurred, that likely had to help her in after the chair was destroyed.
Hi im Sydney and it was my chair that was pushed down the stairs. I'm so thankful for all of Sullivan's help in this situation and the kind comments I see on Julia's post. I swear I really don't wanna keep a cent of the donated money, I'd much rather give it to those who need it.
Sydney also thanked Twitter users for the financial support she received, presumably for a new wheelchair, but insisted that her support system at the moment is fine, and she could pass on the donations to other disabled people in need. If such a wonderful thing were to come of such a stupid act, it'd be a fantastic resolution to this story.
