Pat Maroon forced to drop the gloves after slewfooting Connor McDavid
Pat Maroon and the Tampa Bay Lightning have developed a ruthless reputation across the NHL for doing whatever it takes to win. The Lightning have become known for crossing the line whenever an opportunity to presents itself to give themselves an advantage. Last night that manifested itself when Pat Maroon delivered a slewfoot to Connor McDavid during the 1st period of last night's game.
On the play Maroon was given a 2 minute penalty for hooking. But to begin the second period, Oilers forward Klim Kostin felt that Maroon had served a tough enough punishment. Kostin and Maroon immediately dropped the gloves as the Oiler attempted to send an important message to Maroon.
Both players received 5 minute majors, but clearly Maroon didn't get the message, as he followed that up by another slewfoot on Derek Ryan later in the game. This time Maroon received 2 minutes for tripping.
