Yesterday, the New York Rangers made a big splash across the league in acquiring top-six forward Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues. The Rangers were long rumoured to be looking for a forward of such calibre, including Patrick Kane, who was asked his thoughts on the trade today.
Kane's quote from morning skate came off as seemingly frustrated, or disappointed in the fact that the Rangers made the trade for Tarasenko, instead of himself.
It was clear that Kane would've been open to a trade to the Rangers, but as is later outlined by Mark Lazerus of the Athletic, Kane still hasn't made up his mind about staying or leaving Chicago.
If that's the case, Kane needs to make a decision - and fast. With the complication of his injured hip and his massive cap hit of $10.5M, making a trade for Kane would not be easy. Teams will likely need weeks to work out the logistics of a trade of this magnitude. For Kane, this dance of «should I stay or should I go» needs to end. He needs to make a decision. Now seemingly regretting missing out on the Rangers, it's possible that this event expedites a trade.
With the Rangers off the board to acquire Kane, potential suitors will now include the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
