Patrick Kane shows tremendous respect for Alex Ovechkin after his 800th goal
Last night Alex Ovechkin continued his career goal scoring chase in dramatic fashion. Not only did Ovechkin have a hat trick in last night's victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, his third goal of the night was career goal number eight hundred. What an accomplishment by Ovechkin. He is now one career goal behind Gordie Howe for second all-time.
Anthony Mantha was hard on the forecheck in the Chicago zone and caused a turnover. He centered the puck to Evgeny Kuznetsov who didn't score but the rebound went right to Ovechkin who fired the puck past the Chicago goalie Peter Mrazek. Check out the replay below.
As Ovechkin scored, he was mobbed and congratulated by his teammates on the ice. As hats rained from the United Center, the rest of his teammates skated from the bench to congratulate the super star winger. It was a joyous moment to see Ovechkin and his team celebrate such a remarkable achievement. Even the Chicago fans gave a round of applause to Ovechkin.
Possible the coolest part in all of this was the respect shown between Patrick Kane and Ovechkin after this monumental goal. This sort of sportsmanship is what makes Canada special.
Washington's next game is at home tomorrow against the Dallas Stars. Will Ovechkin tie or pass Gordie Howe on home ice tonight? It will be quite a moment if he can.
