During an interview with TSN's Julia Tocheri on Friday night, Peterborough Petes captain Shawn Spearing called Seattle Thunderbirds captain Lucas Ciona a 'loser' despite his jaw being wired shut.

"That guy's just a loser, to be honest with ya" Spearing said.

Spearing and Ciona took part in the ceremonial puck drop on Friday night ahead of their semi-final clash at the Memorial Cup. The two appeared to be laughing, but bumped into each other after shaking hands and Ciona pointed at Spearing's jaw as the pair skated away.

The Petes captain broke his jaw on a blocked shot back during Game 7 of the OHL's Eastern Conference Final series against the North Bay Battalion. Spearing was forced to undergo surgery and missed Game 1 of the Finals against London, but was able to return for Game 2.

Unfortunately for Spearing and the Petes, their season is over after losing to Seattle on Friday night as the Thunderbirds move on to the Memorial Cup Final to face the Quebec Remparts.
