Some things in life are more significant than hockey, even at the highest level, even when you get paid millions to play the sport. Tonight one of those reasons pulled an Arizona Coyotes player from the game... after he took the opening shift.
The Coyotes were in Detriot to take on the Red Wings with Phil Kessel dressed for the opening shift. That shift would be his only one of the game. Remember how I said some things were bigger than the sport of hockey? As reported by Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Kessel left the game to fly back to Arizona to be with his family as he becomes a father for the first time
Kessel, 34, has 6 goals and 28 assists for 34 points in 55 games with Arizona this season!
Congrats to Kessel and his family as they welcome their first child!
