Philadelphia Flyers announce forwards season is over, less then 3 weeks after saying he was close to returning
Things continue to go poorly for the Philadelphia Flyers. On the ice this year the club has not been very good. They're towards the bottom of the NHL standings. They've also been hit hard by the injury bug. Today they received even worse news as it was announced that forward Cam Atkinson will not play this season. Atkinson has been out with an upper body injury. It appeared that the Flyers were hopeful that he would at least return to the lineup this year but that is not going to be the case. Just a few weeks ago, Atkinson had been practicing with the team and appeared close to returning to the lineup.
This is a tough loss for Philadelphia who already struggles offensively. Atkinson is an effective goal scoring winger. Last season he put up twenty-three goals in seventy-three games last season. Philadelphia will sure miss his goal scoring ability. We all know that Ryan Ellis has barely played for the organization since being traded. Sean Couturier is out long-term with a back surgery. Tony DeAngelo has left the team for personal reasons as well.
Things just continue to go from bad to worse for the Flyers. On top of all that, the players have to deal with John Tortorella and his explosive personality. It will be a year to forget for Philadelphia. Perhaps they can be lucky enough to be in contention for drafting Connor Bedard. Let's hope Atkinson can make a full recovery and rejoin a team who desperately needs him next year.
