Pierre Engvall Has An Interesting Clause In His Contract
The New York Islanders were able to get some business done on the opening of free agency, locking up four of their own players. Defenseman Scott Mayfield and forward Pierre Engvall were signed to seven-year contracts and goaltender Semyon Varlamov received a four-year deal. General Manager Lou Lamoriello's best signing of the day was getting Vezina finalist Ilya Sorokin locked up on an eight-year extension with a cap hit of $8,250,000.
The 27 year old Engvall played well after coming to the Islanders in a trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 18 games with his new team he scored 5 goals and 9 points. Earning himself a $21 million deal.
Engvall's agent was able to negotiate an interesting clause in his contract. It has a two-week full NTC that expires on July 15, 2023 before flipping to a 16 Team No Trade for the rest of his contract.
Maybe Engvall's camp felt he could be moved at this busy time of the off-season? Could it be Lamoriello being his corky self?
Whatever the case it's nice to see a seventh round pick earn the biggest payday of his career.
