The ECHL is called the jungle for a reason, game in and game out, wild things tend to happen. In a game yesterday that saw the Adirondack Thunder go up against the Newfoundland Growlers, things got intense.
After a illegal hit to the head of Thunder Captain Shane Harper, Forward Shawn Weller jumped off the bench looking for a fight and standing up for Harper, taking on Growlers' Chris Martenet
On one hand, I appreciate that someone would be willing to stand up for their captain, but on the other hand, coming off the bench only leaves your team down a man in the long run.
Today, the punishments for the incident were announced. Weller has been suspended for 6 games for leaving the bench to stand up for Harper and Thunder head coach Peter MacArthur has been suspended 1 game for being the coach of the player who left the bench.
