It was announced on December 9th that Vegas Golden Knights defender Alex Pietrangelo was going to be away from the team indefinitely due to an illness In the Pietrangelo family, as he gets set to make his return to the lineup tonight, he's provided an update on the matter.
According to SinBin Las Vegas, as Pietrangelo was speaking to the media today, his voice breaking a little bit, he spoke about his four year old daughter who had the illness.
Pietrangelo explains that his daughter, who originally had the flu, developed a brain lesion which made her lose all of her motor skills. She was then brought to Sunrise Hospital where she was hooked up to a feeding tube.
Her condition has improved drastically over the past few days, to the point where he could return to the Knights. Doctors have told the Pietrangelo family that his daughter will make a full recovery.
Family comes before everything and I'm glad the Vegas Golden Knights supported Pietrangelo in stepping away when he needed to. In a situation like that, hockey should be the last thing on someone's mind.
Pietrangelo will return to the lineup tonight when the Golden Knights take on the New York Islanders
