Player receives multiple game suspension for TKOing opponent with a sucker punch
One of the most dangerous and disgraceful things anyone can do is sucker punch someone. Unfortunately in the last few days we've seen multiple sucker punches in professional hockey. The latest sucker punch comes from the Swedish Hockey League.
Over the weekend Thomas Schemitsch of the Malmo Redhawks, delivered a sucker punch to Linus Oberg. The two players were shoving behind the net when Schemitsch delivered the blow to the side of the head of Oberg.
The blow sent Oberg hard to the ice, TKOing him. Schemitsch was ejected from the game for his actions.
The SHL rendered their decision this morning stating that
Oberg has no opportunity to defend himself against the blow.
The disciplinary committee deemed this to be worth a 3 game suspension. Schemitsch was a former 3rd round pick of the Florida Panthers, but he never made the NHL. Schemitsch played six seasons in the AHL splitting time between the Springfield Thunderbirds and Cleveland Monsters.
