Several members of the Nashville Predators were livid after this one, and it's not hard to understand why.
With time running out on the clock in the third period of a Preds 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning last night, the Bolts Austin Watson decided to slap the puck from his own end as hard as he could. The shot his Jeremy Lauzon in the shins, and he was not happy about it. As he was down, Lauzon smacked his stick on the ice before getting up and hobbling to the back. In the meantime, there was, of course, a scrum around Watson, who got up and to the back and quickly as possible.
It's questionable whether Watson was intentionally trying to do damage here. Either way, with your team losing 5-1 and less than two seconds on the clock, this was a completely unnecessary play. Preds head coach Andrew Brunette was not happy with what happened.
"I did not like that at all. No place for that in the game. No place at all."
No word on whether Watson might face supplemental discipline for his actions.
