Ahead of the trade deadline at 3pm today and amid speculation that the Predators could move their star forward, it seems now that Nashville GM David Poile will attempt to re-sign Filip Forsberg in the off-season. Elliotte Friedman reports,
Forsberg is in the midst of a career best season, 33 goals and 58 points in 49 games. Reportedly, the Predators and Forsberg are far apart on contract terms, but Poile seems committed to retaining the franchise's highest goal scorer. This also takes a top 6 forward off the market ahead of the trade deadline, which will affect the market for other teams.
It was expected that if Forsberg was traded he'd be the highest coveted rental on the market after Claude Giroux, but given how wide open the Western Conference is it makes sense for Nashville to hold onto Forsberg.
