The Vancouver Canucks have some big decisions to make as they decide what they want in return for some of their roster players. NHL Insider Jeff Marek reports that the Canucks are ready to deal soon to be unrestricted free-agent Bo Horvat. In return the organization would like a roster player that can step in and play right away. Yeah, you read that correct a roster player.

Vancouver is also in a very tough spot with some of the contracts that they have. Shedding salary is not the worse thing for a team that has severely underachieved this season. JT Miller's deal already looks questionable, and it doesn't start till next year. They appear to be stuck with Oliver Ekman-Larsson for quite a while as well. Things are a mess with this franchise.

Vancouver does have two studs on their roster, Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, which they can build around. After those two players the Canucks should explore all options on every other player and try to accumulate as many picks and prospects as possible. Trying to acquire current roster players is not going to address the problem or change much for Vancouver. They need to take a few steps back to start making progress later on down the road. Sadly, from Jeff Marek's reports, Vancouver is unwilling to accept the truth.
