Scary situation - player knocked unconscious after hitting the boards
During today's Kontinental Hockey League action, former NHLer Shane Prince was ejected after tripping another player into the boards. The play occured approximately 12 minutes into the first period when Prince tried to close the gap on the defender. The defender, Yaroslav Tsulygin, fell hard into the boards hitting his head hard.
Tsulygin was left unconscious on the ice before being attended to by medical staff. Tsulygin was eventually helped to his feet and loaded onto a stretcher before being carted off the ice.
Prince was given a 5 minute major and 20 minute game misconduct. But upon review of the clip, it doesn't appear Prince did much to cause Tsulygin to fall into the boards, but the penalty was issued accordingly.
