Sharks ink top rental target forward to a contract extension
It was expected that Tomas Hertl would be one of the biggest trade deadline adds for a contending teams, but it appears that won't be the case. According to Pierre LeBrun the San Jose Sharks and Hertl's representatives have come to an agreement on an 8-year extension, which will keep Hertl off the market.
Chris Johnston of TSN also added that that expected AAV will be in the neighborhood of $8,000,000 on the deal.
Hertl has 48 points in 59 games this season and was set to becoming an unrestricted free agent.
I'm personally not sure how this deal makes San Jose any better. It seems like a situation where San Jose is simply churning their tires and not making any progress. Especially when anchored by the heavy loaded contracts on their backend. It seems like San Jose is simply pushing off an inevitable rebuild.
