The New York Islanders' failure of an off-season has been documented, checked, and verified in the Hockey media. Lou Lamoriello really sat on his laurels of going through the motions and signing his RFA's while not moving the needle to acquire Nazem Kadri, because apparently moving cap space is too hard.

They could still manage to snag a cheap free agent, since Toronto and Calgary, who were both rumored to have interest, haven't made an offer to former Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks player, Sonny Milano.

Milano is a cheap option for many clubs who still have cap space left, the Islanders for example. Milano is due a raise, due to his performance with his linemate, Trevor Zegras. Zegras and Milano broke the orthodox hockey internet with the Michigan goal, popularized at first by Andrei Svechnikov.

Milano clearly has some skill, and his numbers suggest there's something to build on. Even on a Ducks team that struggled at five-on-five, he put up some pretty impressive numbers. His 52.02 CF% ranked first on the Ducks, while his 52.75 xG% was second to Adam Henrique. Even when paired away from Zegras, his CF% and xG% were just about break-even (a touch over 49 percent).

Milano, the Long Island-born winger is an affordable, playmaker and Lamiorello could easily add him to their bottom six to add to an aging core.

It's practically a no-brainer, a cheap 34-point in 66 games option.
