Steven Stamkos to be placed on the trade block?
Before the regular season began, Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos made it clear he was unhappy. Stamkos wasn't unhappy about being a member of the Lightning, instead he was unhappy that management had refused to negotiate a deal to keep him in Tampa Bay. Stamkos made it clear that he intended to finish his career with the Lightning, but the Bolts ownership wasn't sure that was a good idea.
This season the Lightning currently sit with a record of 10-10-5 and currently do not occupy a playoff spot. It finally appears that Father Time may have caught up with the Lightning. Rumors swirled that Lightning management isn't sure retaining Stamkos is best for the franchise.
Now it seems that the idea of Stamkos becoming available aren't that far fetched. Today on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman touched on the topic.
Marek: "Well, that's what Julien BriseBois talked about at the beginning of the season, we need to see what the season is going to be like here"
EF: "Teams are going to call"
Other than the Vegas Golden Knights the Lightning are one of the most ruthless teams in the league. The only thing that matters to them is winning, fans saw that with how the team handled the Ryan McDonagh situation.
If the Lightning can't figure it out, it's likely to be a very interesting deadline for the team.
