Some more light-hearted news before we head into the NHL playoffs: Today, a study was shared today that investigated which fan base across the NHL consumed the most alcohol.
The top-5 on this study, which is based on a survey of almost 1,600 fans in the US and Canada.
1. Toronto 3.9
2. Chicago 3.8
3. Tampa Bay 3.7
4. Colorado 3.7
5. Arizona 3.6
The Oilers were sixth at 3.5
Toronto Maple Leafs fans were found to be the drunkest fan base in the NHL, consuming 3.9 drinks per game. This seems pretty unsurprising, whether you like the Leafs and drink to forget their losses, or hate the Leafs and think all their fans must be drunk.
In second place came the Chicago Blackhawks fans, also perhaps drinking to numb the pain of being a basement team. Interestingly, Tampa Bay and Colorado fans come in at third and fourth place with 3.7 drinks per game, maybe celebrating their wins.
The most surprising listing is Arizona Coyotes fans purchasing 3.6 drinks per game. Honestly, I have no idea what to make of that. Cheap drink prices? A few raging alcoholics? Forgetting the failures?
Who knows exactly why any fan base drinks as much as they do, but it's fun to see how fan bases rank around the league.
