The Tampa Bay Lightning were looking to be the first team in the salary cup era to threepeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Unfortunately the Lightning couldn't overcome the Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final, ultimately losing the series in six games.

Like many of the top teams the Tampa Bay Lightning have some serious decisions ahead of next season when it comes to the salary cap. The Lightning's General Manager, Julien BriseBois is looking to try to re-sign some of their key players like, Ondrej Palat, Nick Paul and Jan Rutta. but with very little cap space BriseBois is going to have to make some moves to make that happen.

Hockey Insider, Elliotte Friedman would speak on this topic on his 32 Thoughts Podcast and reveal the Lightning are currently working with Ryan McDonagh to see if there's another team he'd consider accepting a trade to. This would obviously be a tough loss losing McDonagh is a top defender in the league and one of the Lightning's most reliable players.

This has people wondering if McDonagh is so valuable why trade him? Well it's the fact McDonagh is 33 and has four more seasons that pays him $6.75 million dollars annually. However, McDonagh has a full no trade clause so BriseBois is going to have to convince McDonagh to waive it.
