The Florida Panthers disrespected Andrew Brunette one last time after firing him
It's been a bad few days if your name is Andrew Brunette and you used to be the interim Head Coach of the Florida Panthers. First, you have to wait on the sidelines while the team you just took into the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 19 years interviews a slew of potential candidates, all the while not telling you your fate. Then you find out that the team has decided to hire Paul Maurice as your replacement. All of this happening, while you've been told nothing by the organization.
But things got even worse for the most recent Jack Adams runner up. Brunette found out he was without a job, and finally, the organization doesn't let you walk without stabbing you in the back one more time.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Panthers organization couldn't let a rightfully spurned Brunette go without offering him a role to stay with the team a demotion, as an assistant coach under newly hired head coach Paul Maurice.
LeBrun then followed it up by saying this:
Can you blame the guy? If my name is Andrew Brunette, you can bet I want absolutely nothing to do with the Panther organization as a whole, especially after going 51-17-6 this season.
This is not how you treat your employees, especially after what he did behind the bench for you. You know, they say this business (hockey) is cutthroat, but this goes beyond that. The Panthers have handled this situation in one of the most egregious ways they possibly could. Employment ethics 101: not everything someone says to you has to be nice, but you at least deserve honesty from those above you.
I hope Andrew Brunette gets picked up by an organization that will value him and his contributions. If you're an employer in any area of business, the Florida Panthers are an example of what NOT to do.
