Yesterday at Calgary Flames practice, things got heated between Blake Coleman and Erik Gudbranson. The two players got involved after an intense drill between the two men got physical.

Interesting moment here at Winsport where the #Flames are practising. Coleman and Gudbranson got into a bit of a shoving match after some stuff down low took a turn. Coleman fell to the ground. Gudbranson broke his stick. The two shared words. A high intensity practise.

Gubranson and Coleman are both known to be tough to play against and very physical players and that boiled over into practice. They have both recorded over a 100 hits each this season.

Head Coach Darryl Sutter was quoted after the practice sharing his thoughts on the Gubranson and Coleman interaction:

It's good. It's a contact sport. Those two guys that were banging each other around? Those are two bangers, right? We need some of them guys that are pillow fighting to do a little bit of that.

The Flames are currently on a two game skid after close one goal losses at home against Colorado and Los Angeles. The intensity is ramping up as the playoffs await the Flames and coach Sutter is definitely a fan.

Its been a polar opposite season this year to last for the Flames. Johnny Gaudreau is back to playing like a Superstar in a contract year. He's top 5 in scoring with 91 points. Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk are having career seasons. Jacob Markstrom is having a Vezina Trophy worthy season with a GAA of 2.15 and Save % of .925.

Sutter took over last season in early March and finished the season with a .500 record 15 wins and 15 losses. He has the Flames 1st in the Pacific with a record of 40-18-9 in 67 games. A lot of credit has to go to him with how the team has rebounded this season. He has the team playing with a lot more intensity and buy in.

With the playoffs only 15 games away the Flames are looking primed for a much shorter summer this year.
