With just over 2 minutes left to play in regulation and down 4-2, the San Jose Sharks pulled their goalie. What looked like a harmless shot from Nick Bonino made it's way through and pulled the Sharks within one.
Then within the final seconds of regulation, the Sharks threw everything they could on net. Right before the buzzer it was none other than Timo Meier himself who put in a rebound to score the tying goal and force overtime. The goal was officially credited with 1 second left on the clock.
With everyone on the edge of their seats in Vegas, the game needed a shootout to decide the winner. After the first 5 shooters went scoreless, the game rested on the shoulders of Sharks rookie Thomas Bordeleau.
It was an exciting game and an even more exciting finish. Vegas has now seen their playoff chances for this year greatly diminish. The Golden Knights play the Dallas Stars Tuesday night. Dallas currently sits 3 points ahead of Vegas for the final playoff spot. If the Stars beat Vegas in regulation the playoff teams would be set. Vegas could see their season end without making the playoffs. A far cry from a team who had Stanley Cup aspirations.
