Curtis Sanford is the current goalie coach of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and he's using a novel method to train goalies. Swivelvision, a set of goggles used to train your eyes to focus and track the puck. Swivelvision was developed by Jim Konkler a former high school football coach, who filed his patent in 2016 for the goggles, which Sanford(and Colorado Avalanche goalie coach Jussi Parkkila) are using.

As a High School Football Coach in Norco, California, I kept noticing the same problem. Players having difficulty identifying their keys and reads. It happened at every position. They weren't dialed in. Distractions were everywhere. Something was needed to restrict players vision and force their focus.

Murray is familiar with the product, however the same can't be said for Samsonov. Sanford is part of the new regime in Toronto after the Maple Leafs parted ways with goalie coach Steve Briere. Briere has since moved on to become the Seattle Kraken's goalie coach.

The idea is to block your peripheral vision, so you use your eyes and head to track a football or puck, Swivelvision is being marketed for multiple sports including Lacrosse, Volleyball, and Baseball as well.

It looks as if Sanford is bringing the goalies into a new age of training, but will it bring them past the 1st round?
