Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk revealed the events that lead up to a full line brawl after the opening faceoff in the USA versus Canada Four Nations game.

The Four Nations faceoff tournament was one of the most successful one-off events the NHL has put on in the last decade if not longer.

Part of that success came thanks to Team USA brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk, who embraced the villain role at the event.

Ahead of Team USA's round robin game against Canada, the two brothers orchestrated an entire line brawl with the Canadians on the opening faceoff creating tons of excitement and drama right off the hop.

Luckily, the two brothers happened to be mic'ed up for the game as well, so we got some exclusive behind-the-scenes audio of them talking about it in the penalty box after the scrum was over.

Today, Brady went on the Spittin Chiclets podcast where he talked about the fight and the events that led up to it.

He revealed that he didn't think it was that serious, but once JT Miller got involved they decided they had to go through with it, regardless of what both team's coaches may have wanted.

"We were joking around about it but at the start of the Tournament we got to know Millsy (JT Miller), awesome guy, and we were joking around about it, we had to do something. We were in Montreal, we're the villains, and we were just about to go for a nap when Millsy texted us asking 'are we serious about starting tonight?' Then I find out four minutes before puck drop who they're starting and Matthew's like 'I got my guy,' you got Benny (Sam Bennet) and Miller's got Parayko."

While Jon Cooper and Mike Sullivan may have preferred for the players not to fight, it proved to be a huge moment for the game of hockey as it helped spike ratings for the rest of the tournament.

After the brawl got much media attention, the final game between the USA and Canada became one of the most watched hockey games of all time, helping grow the game and the NHL brand.

Hopefully we will get more events like this in the future as the league looks to continue to grow.
