Moments ago, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman added to reports from earlier today, confirming that the Toronto Maple Leafs are close to signing forward Max Domi.
Additionally, according to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, the contract value will come in around $2.M for just one season.
Domi, now 28 years old, was a twelfth overall selection of the Arizona Coyotes in the 2013 draft, with high expectations of being an offensive contributor. Since his draft year, he's had wildly successful seasons and equally disappointing seasons. Coming off a resurgent year with the Chicago Blackhawks and a successful postseason with the Dallas Stars, Domi seems to once again be at a high in his career. In 60 games with a desolate Blackhawks team last season, Domi posted 18 goals and 49 points, and followed up with 13 points in the Stars' playoff run.
An expectation carried by Domi is connected to his father, Tie Domi, and his play with the Leafs. From 1994 to 2006, Tie Domi brought an aggressive edge to his play, a trait the Leafs would love to see from Max this season - along with offensive ability and a contribution to depth scoring.
The deal would solidify Toronto's bottom six forwards heading into next season, following the signing of Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Reaves, and David Kampf in free-agency.
