We all know minor hockey can get pretty rough, whether it's parents going after coaches, refs or anything of the like or the games on ice getting a little out of hand. These things happen, emotions run high, but they should be left on the ice and not carried forward.
According to CBC, two minor hockey league coaches have been banned from coaching for life after a physical altercation took place on November 20th after a heated minor hockey league game.
The two men were banned from coaching by Hockey Outaouais after a heated U-15 game, although, one of the men seems confused by the ruling.
I feel confused. I feel betrayed by the Hockey Outaouais committee. They never came to see me, to talk to me. They made decisions on facts [which rest] on just one side of the coin I did not even have the right to explain myself to these people who made decisions.
Whatever the circumstances, if a fight between 2 adults who are supposed to be role models for young children takes place, in my opinion they should not be allowed to continue to coach said children. Now, that being said, I also believe that the men should be allowed to state their individual cases.
Hockey Canada issued the following statement:
Hockey Canada will recognize and enforce that disciplinary penalty, subject to any appeal rights that the individuals may have.
