Washington Capitals Head Coach Peter Laviolette placed in COVID Protocol, won't be able to coach
The Washington Capitals have announced that head coach Peter Laviolette is in COVID-19 protocol. Washington's has a home and home matchup versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tonight's game will be in Washington and Sunday's game is in Tamp Bay. Laviolette will not be behind the bench for either game. Therefore, assistant head coach Kevin McCarthy will step in for Laviolette's absence.
Although it might seem overly cautious, the league is still implementing COIVD-19 protocol. In this case, the safety and well-being of others is priority. Although Laviolette will miss a few games, he has a qualified replacement to cover for him.
Let's hope Laviolette has a speedy recover and can get back his team after this weekend. In fifteen games played this year the Capitals have six wins, seven losses, and two overtime losses. Earlier this season Winnipeg Jets coach Rick Bowness tested positive and has been struggling with issues related to the illness since.
