The National League has been around for over 100 years now and it's very rare for things to be done that set new NHL records, beyond modern day scoring that is.
Yesterday, the NHL announced they had set a new record for shutouts and hat tricks on the same day, take a look:
This is a real stat from last night and no, we're not joking.
Yesterday, April 1st, there were 5 shutouts to go along with 5 hat tricks on the same day for the first time in the long standing history of the NHL.
if nothing else, this proves two things, one, the offence is taking over the game in a way we haven't seen in a long time and two, the goaltending has also improved dramatically.
How both things are possible at the same time is beyond me, but this is likely a one time occurrence and a pretty cool one at that.
This shows that while the offence in the NHL is alive and well, the goaltending is also matching the new age of scoring across the league
