If a sign was needed that the Boston Bruins have no idea when Jeremy Swayman will be back with the team, you now have it. With Swayman expected to still be on the sidelines come opening night of the 2024-25 regular season, the Bruins have picked themselves up another goaltender, just in case.
After the Vancouver Canucks placed 25-year-old netminder Jiri Patera on Monday, it has been announced that he's been picked up by the Boston Bruins to add to their current roster.
Jiri Patera had signed a new two-year, two-way contract with the Vancouver Canucks in June of this year.
There's no question the ongoing situation with Jeremy Swayman influenced this decision by the Boston Bruins. The team has already said that Joonas Korpisalo will be the starting goaltender for the season opener against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 8. With Korpisalo and the addition of Jiri Patera, Boston also has goalies Brandon Bussi and Michael DePietro on it's roster.
