In today's update from the NHL waiver wire, insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Boston Bruins decided to place the 34-year-old veteran Tyler Johnson on waivers with the purpose of contract termination.
Friedman added that everyone who was on waivers yesterday cleared, including the right-handed defenseman Grant Hutton.

Tyler Johnson notably won two Stanley Cups in his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning in their back-to-back wins in 2020 and 2021.
This season, the centerman took part in only nine games with the Bruins and scored two points after signing a one-year contract valued at $775,000 last summer in Boston.
He was never drafted but managed to make his way to the NHL. He ended up playing 747 regular-season games and 116 playoff games in his career, which started with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2012. In addition to the Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lighting, Johnson also played for the Chicago Blackhawks between 2021 and 2024.
With Johnson likely being available on the free-agent market, it'll be interesting to see if other teams will take a chance on him. However, at his age, and after a contract termination, it seems he has reached the end of his career as an NHL player.
The Bruins will be looking to show their management that they can still compete against top teams tonight, as they face Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
The organization climbed in the rankings, currently standing 3rd in the Atlantic Division with a 17-13-3 record. With a win, they would reduce the Florida Panthers' lead to three points, making a push to the top two positions in the division an achievable target for interim head coach Joe Sacco.
