The Detroit Red Wings are taking on the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal tonight, it might be early, but there's already been a near disaster with an arrant skate blade catching a wings player up high.

In the neutral zone area forwards JT Compher and Juraj Slafkovsky get tangled up, after Red Wings defender Moritz Seider pushes Slafkovsky. While Slafkovsky is off balance he catches Compher who was on the outside of the scrum looking in; take a look.

JT Compher left the game after taking a skate blade to the face.

Hopefully he's alright. Scary.

Compher would leave the game with a towel over his face to minimize the blood. Hopefully he's okay, but it could've been a lot worse than it was had he not been wearing a visor.

Is it just me, or is this happening a lot more this season than years past. Everyone has zoned in on things like this since the tragic passing of Adam Johnson, but skate blade cuts seem to be more common than years past.

Hopefully Compher is okay. The Wings are down 1-0 to this point in the first period.
