After former Oilers general manager, Ken Holland step down at the end of last season CEO of hockey operations Jeff Jackson took over the role on an intern basis while trying to find a new general manager for the team. After the success of his opening day of free agency on July 1, and the subsequent moves after, some Edmonton Oilers fans most if we're being honest, want him to take over the role full-time. However that won't be possible.
According to Oilers Nation, While Jackson is appreciative of the fact that Oilers fans are happy with the moves that he's made he still actively searching for a general manager.
Jackson on an appearance on the Bob McCown podcast continues to be strong in the belief that he is not meant to be a general manager. Continued saying that he is a CEO and is involved in the day-to-day operations of the club, but he doesn't have to be around the team every day like a GM would have to be, he made it very clear to the owner of the Edmonton Oilers when he was hired that he had no interest in being a general manager and instead would like to be able to focus sometime on his family.
I'm sure this isn't the news Edmonton Oilers fans wanted to hear, but you can't fault somebody who just wants to spend a little bit of extra time with their family, when he already has a very demanding job.
