Former NHL player Mike Ribeiro has pleaded guilty in court to charges stemming from a horrific incident that took place a few years ago.

Former NHLer Mike Ribeiro has pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent a****** stemming from an incident said to have taken place at his home in the summer of 2021. The plea, which was obtained, is a surprise turn in the case that had drawn attention because of Ribeiro's prior run-ins with the law regarding similar allegations. The involvement of the former star in this latest judicial problem underlines a troubled past away from the ice, which marked his legacy.

On April 13, 2022, an indictment was returned against Ribeiro in Franklin County, Texas, amid complaints from two women. Court documents told a tale of chills: the complaints were of the same nature, a******* which happened on June 23, 2021. One said that Ribeiro had a******** her with his fingers, while another said he used his s***** organ. These allegations brought new scrutiny towards Ribeiro, once a celebrated player now facing serious criminal accusations.

Ribeiro later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of touching a victim without her consent. The acceptance of guilt, tied directly to the indecent a****** charge, convicted him of the matter that might have otherwise gone to a lengthy trial process. With the plea deal, Ribeiro bypassed further courtroom drama, yet it raised questions about his conduct and some kind of pattern of behavior that he seemed to show.

Victims testified in court, one with an impassioned testimony. She said she had chosen to forgive Ribeiro. Her decision, she added, did not make the crime less heinous. Teary-eyed, the moment was touching in the courtroom: the personal cases that may get even when forgiveness is extended.

Besides being ordered to pay a $4,000 fine, he was credited with time served for 24 hours in jail. The incident is not the first of its kind relating to Mike Ribeiro, who in 2012 was sued by his former nanny, who also accused him of s***** a******. Repeated allegations against the former NHL star cast a long shadow over his once-promising career.
