Following his post-hockey financial success, former Edmonton Oilers draft pick Patrick Dovigi dropped an excessive amount of money on a state-of-the-art superyacht.

Patrick Dovigi entered hockey in the nineties, goaltending in youth hockey leagues before joining the Erie Otters in the OHL for the 1996-1997 season.

In that year's NHL draft, Dovigi was lucky enough to be selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round, 41st overall.

However, after a few years of little success and no NHL appearances, he decided to leave the sport and take on a much different challenge: the environment.

Climate change is considered one of the greatest threats to life on Earth, and in his efforts to reduce its prevalence, Patrick Dovigi created Green For Life Environmental (GFL) to provide services in eco-friendly waste management.

What started as a dream for a simple green dream quickly became the fourth largest environmental service provider across Northern America, now a multi-billion dollar company.

Over the past several years, Dovigi has not been a stranger to spending high-dollar amounts on luxury properties, having spent nearly $120 billion on his two homes in Aspen, Colorado.

However, his latest major expenditure makes these price tags look like little more than a molehill.

In May 2023, Patrick Dovigi bought a massive yacht named Lady Jogia for roughly $560 million from fellow billionaire businessman and Portland Holdings CEO Michael Lee-Chin.

After what was possibly the largest brokerage deal of its type, Dovigi had come into an ornate 378-foot yacht with eight guest cabins, dozens of skilled crewmembers, and several luxury amenities.

Though individuals may spend their money as they see fit, Dovigi has garnered criticism for his exorbitant purchase.

Superyachts are among the highest-polluting travel methods, releasing far more carbon dioxide and waste than fans would expect of a goaltender-turned-environmentalist.

Understandably, upset viewers took to social media to address the entrepreneur's hypocrisy over an issue as grave as the climate, implying Dovigi's heart was made green not by the planet, but by money.

Though we cannot be sure of someone's intentions, actions speak louder than words: Dovigi has continued amassing wealth and property while contributing to the climate change he swears to be so fervently against.

Hopefully, the Green Empire billionaire remembers his mission before it's too late.
