Former National Hockey League goaltender Henrik Lundqvist Didn't end his career the way he wanted to to retire due to a heart problem they found during a physical when he signed a one year deal with the Washington Capitals. For a Hall of Fame goaltender do I have to go out that way after playing so many successful years with the New York Rangers it's a tough pill to swallow.
Lundqvist has a documentary that came out on June 15, 2023 that is about to be on Netflix in May detailing his short time with the Washington Capitals and the eventual decision to retire from the game of hockey. in a clip floating around on TikTok, there's the exact moment where he finds out playing is no longer an option; take a look.
Open Heart Scene
In the clip above Lundqvist Is talking to his doctor over the phone and asks,'If I was your brother, would you tell me to stop playing hockey?' The doctor responds and says yes'. In that moment you can clearly hear the realization that Lundqvist Has as he grapples with the fact that he'll never play in the NHL again.
It's truly a heartbreaking scene because you could hear Lundqvist and his emotions starts to get the better of him. I can't imagine devoting my entire life to a sport getting to play it at the highest level and then not being able to go out on my own terms.
Lundqvist was a great goalie and a very deserving Hall of Fame Inductee, but the way his career ended in a way actually very tragic.
