CapFriendly A popular website that compiles all the NHL contracts and their compliance with the salary cap will soon go dark after the Washington Capitals bought the service.
This has been a puzzling decision, but one that we can only expect from the NHL commissioner in Gary Bettman. It's obvious that he doesn't want fans of the league to enjoy the product on or off the ice, If it wasn't to some before, it sure is now.
According to one of Sportsnet's insiders, Elliotte Friedman, The NHL had a long-standing gripe against the salary, cap site and often thought that contract structure shouldn't be made public.
Friedman says that the National Hockey League «frowns» on a site like CapFriendly As they consider contract structure to be proprietary information' As a result, when the Washington Capitals purchased the website, the NHL made it clear that they could not be partners and it needed to go dark.
This is just another example of Gary Bettman making the game of hockey at the highest level less accessible every year. Whether it's on or off the ice, the product that has become the National Hockey League has little to no redeeming qualities day after day.
