After considering their options going forward and signing Calvin Pickard to a two-year contract extension, the Edmonton Oilers have made the decision to place Jack Campbell on unconditional waivers to buyout his contract.
According to CapFriendly, a buyout of Jack Campbell's contract would last for six seasons and giving the Edmonton Oilers the following cap hit for each year:
Year 1: $1.1 million.
Year 2: $2.3 million.
Year 3: $2.6 million.
Years 4-6: $1.5 million.
Due to a poor start to the 2023-24 season, the Edmonton Oilers decided to place Campbell on waivers and after he cleared, assigned him to the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors where he would spent the remainder of the year.
Campbell also struggled at time in the AHL with Bakersfield, even losing the starting job at one point. The Port Huron, Michigan native finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 18-13-1 in 33 games for the Condors, along with a 2.63 goals against average, .918 save percentage and three shutouts.
Along with Jack Campbell, another name is on the waiver wire in order to have his contract bought out - Adam Boqvist of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Boqvist's buyout will last two seasons and in year one, gives Columbus a savings of $66,666, followed by a cap hit of $533,333 in the second year.
Boqvist, 23, had ten points (one goal, nine assists), zero penalty minutes and was a minus-eight in 35 games for Columbus this season.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, a third player has landed on the waiver wire for a contract buyout on Sunday - Nate Schmidt of the Winnipeg Jets.
Schmidt, 32, appeared in 63 games for Winnipeg this season where he had 14 points (two goals, 12 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-ten. He added one goal in three playoff games.
