On Friday, the New York Rangers finally traded their captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks after months of speculation.
It has been confirmed that many Canadian markets were interested in acquiring him, but a new development revealed that it would have never happened.
In a recent report, Bruce Garrioch stated that Trouba wasn't willing to be traded to a Canadian team.
He dismissed the trade rumors with the Ottawa Senators and the other interested Canadian teams, saying there was no chance he'd return to Canada after spending the first six seasons with the Winnipeg Jets.
In his own words:
Many reasons can explain why he didn't want to return to Canada. Usually, players aren't willing to move up North because of the higher taxes, the colder weather, or for family reasons.
Trouba joined his new teammates on the road, and will ironically make his Ducks debut in Canada, against the Montreal Canadiens.
It'll be interesting to see Trouba in action considering how he left things off the last time he was in Montreal.
Less than a week ago, the Rangers were in Montreal and it led to a heated fight between Trouba and Josh Anderson.
A few weeks prior, Trouba had landed a dirty hit on Anderson's teammate Justin Barron, and in Montreal, that retaliation was awaited.
With Radko Gudas and Trouba on the same team, their opponents will need to keep their heads up every time they step on the ice.
