Court documents reveal more details in the case of the deaths of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau as they were out biking before their sister's wedding in New Jersey

While NHL players get down to the grind of the regular season, the court case continues in the deaths of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. And, new details have come out through 911 calls and court documents that shed more light on the tragic incident.

It's been six weeks now since brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed while riding their bicycles after participating in a rehearsal dinner for their sister's wedding, which was to take place the next day. Both men were to be groomsmen in the wedding party. A report from the Columbus Dispatch states Sean Higgins, the man charged in the brothers' deaths, was the third car behind them when he attempted to pass.

"One of the vehicles, an SUV closest to the brothers, started moving to the left to create room for the brothers. Police and New Jersey prosecutors have said Higgins accelerated around that SUV on the right, driving into the Gaudreau brothers, who both died at the scene." - Columbus Dispatch

The police report shows Sean Higgins told officers he had five to six beers before and while driving that night. He is accused by Salem County Assistant Prosecutor Jonathan Flynn of going over the speed limit of 50 mph at the time. Flynn also said Higgins wife stated he was upset after a phone call with his mother, jumped in his Jeep Grand Cherokee, and drove around for two hours talking to a friend on the phone.

The 911 calls in the incident have not been released publicly, although a judge has said they can be. Police have said they likely won't release the tapes, and the family is pushing to keep them private.Sean Higgins was set to appear in court this week, but that appearance was pushed back to November. He remains in custody. The Columbus Blue Jackets staged an emotional tribute to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau in their home opener against the Florida Panthers earlier this week.
