For NHL teams, maintaining their arenas is a difficult task. In the modern day, most facilities have the lifespan of just over 25 years before they become outdated. In an attempt to maintain Nationwide Arena, the arena will require over $60 million in repairs.
These repairs vary from cosmetic two major structural repairs. Without this further updates, the Blue Jackets could find themselves in a situation where their home Arena becomes unusable. Jason Newland of The Hockey News shared the following list of repairs that the arena requires.
While this list doesn't detail all the required repairs it does show some truly important upgrades required. While things like a new scoreboard are a luxury item, preparing the arena's roof and ensuring proper cooling are key upgrades required. While fire alarm replacement is paramount for the safety of everyone in the building.
With multiple teams playing in the building is important to note that this bill will not fall entirely on the Blue Jackets and their revenue, but it is important to understand that these things must happen sooner rather than later.
