Kalle Ostman, who plays for Leksand of the SHL, has been punished for running over an official. However, the video shows he really didn't have much of a choice.

With just over five minutes left in a game between Leksand and Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League, Kalle Ostman ran into a linesman. The video shows Ostman was skating up the ice and looking towards the bench to get a chance when he hit the official, sending him forward. Ostman will sit for the next three games as a result.

"Leksand's Kalle Östman is suspended for three games after the referee's shove in yesterday's game. 'This contact with the line judge could be avoided,' writes the disciplinary committee."

The SHL's Disciplinary Committee further explained its decision.

"The film sequence shows that Kalle Ostman, during a long stretch of skating, looks in the same direction as the line judge is positioned. It is unlikely that Kalle Ostman would not have been able to perceive him at all, even taking into account that the line judge has moved into the ice. Kalle Ostman chooses in this situation to put his hands up and deliberately push against the referee's back. The Board thus finds it established that Kalle Ostman is guilty of a punishable Physical abuse of officials."

Not sure I agree with the committee on this one. The linesman is clearly in the way, and Ostman seemed not to realize it until the last second. He will miss the rest of the quarterfinal playoff series against Frolunda, as well as the first game of the next round if Leksand makes it through.
