Swedish Hockey Federation announces the passing of longtime equipment manager
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we must report the passing of Benny Andersson at the age of 65 who was an instrumental figure within the Swedish National Ice Hockey Federation.
Andersson was the equipment manager of the Swedish Women's National team since 2012 and experienced three Olympic games along with countless world championships during that time. He also worked with AIK for many years. Andersson's last World Championships was in 2024 in Utica, NY.
Losing anyone is a tragedy, and within the hockey community although large, the sadness one feels for those who Andersson touched during his career and in his personal life feels as if we have lost a close one. His impact within the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation was immeasurable and he will be missed tremendously.
Those of us here at Blade of Steel would like to offer our sincere condolences to the many players, coaches, and fans who he touched and supported during his career. We would also like to offer our heartfelt sympathies to his family during this difficult time as we know his loss will be felt far and wide.
