Given the off ice tension between the two nations, it's been clear in recent times that some of the USA players weren't happy with the anthem disrespect, with both Matthew and Brady Tkachuk dropping the gloves early in the game.

After the game, both players reveal that it was very premeditated, stating to the media that they had a group chat with J.T. Miller all day long, with all three expressing their interest to drop the gloves early.

The brothers didn't make clear if the booing of the Canadian fans had anything to do with their decision, but with the tension in the Bell Centre only adding to the atmosphere, it's safe to say that the fights were the perfect way to begin what was an incredible overall occasion.

Now, the tournament shifts to Boston, with Team Canada needing a regulation win over Finland to get the rematch with the United States, and with each and every player and fan wanting to see it again, we may get an even better matchup between the two next week.
