NHL fans officially have no idea what counts as a goal after Boston Bruins score controversial 1st period game
Last night the Tampa Bay Lightning had a goal called back against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Late in the second period Brayden Point tucked a loose puck behind Ilya Samsonov. However on the play the referee had blown the play dead deciding that he'd lost sight of the puck.
After review the goal was determined to not count and the game remained 3-2. The Maple Leafs eventually ties the game and won the game in overtime. Today during Game 4 between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers a similar play occurred. This time however, it resulted in a good goal.
As the puck appears to be covered the referee airs on the side of caution and waits to let the situation play out. That's when Brad Marchand was able to bang the puck home.
The Panthers were upset as they felt the puck was covered, but the referee made the right call.
