Referee Wes McCauley proves he wants to be the star of every game after embarrassing embellishment penalty call
Wes McCauley is for some reason regarded by the NHL as one of the best officials in the league. His exciting penalty calls have become his calling card as he excitedly sends players to the box. But most fans don't come to a hockey game to watch the referee.
McCauley hasn't received that message however.
During the 1st period of today's Game 4 matchup between the New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes, McCauley made the decision to be the star of the show again. With the Islanders already on the powerplay, Hurricanes defender Brent Burns delivers a cross check to Mathew Barzal. The hit sent Barzal hard into the boards.
The whistle was immediately blown and while most expected Burns to head to the box, McCauley had other ideas. Somehow McCauley felt it necessary to send BOTH players to the box. Burns for the cross check and Barzal for embellishment. Fans were obviously blown away by this decision.
It's clear fans of all fan bases are getting tired of McCauley and his antics.
