To say that Wes McCauley has a reputation would be an understatement. His over the top penalty calls and on ice antics are polarizing. Some fans enjoy his schtick, while others detest it.

McCauley has developed a reputation of wanting to be the star of the show and once again tonight was no different. After allowing multiple infractions to go unpunished the officiating crew of Wes McCauley and Dan O'Rourke made the decision with under a minute to go in a tie game to call one of the softest penalties you'll ever see.

As Jordan Staal tries to make a play for the puck he makes contact with Gustav Forsling who falls to the ice rather easily.

The penalty put the Panthers on the powerplay late in the game and as is almost always the case on a tough penalty, they capatlized. Matthew Tkachuk was able to bury a shot and send the Panthers to the Cup Finals. While the Hurricanes were left wondering, just what had happened.
